Report Cards.....

Report Cards ..... Report Cards.... Report Cards.....

Associations should send out reminders to their families in June to keep their student's report cards! If your school district uses an online program such as TxConnect, print them out as soon as they are available. You may not be able to access the online report cards after August 1st..sometimes sooner!

New Training Session Parameters

In the past, we've held a mandatory meeting each July for ALL Little Scholars Coordinators, League One Coordinators and Team Parent Coordinators. This is going away. For those who are returning coordinators and know the drill, I will send a detailed email with the book order, updated spreadsheets and instructions and highlight any changes for the upcoming season. These will also be posted on the CTPW Website.
For new coordinators AND team parents, I will be holding a hands on, interactive training session* that will show them how to:
  • Build a book that passes certification
  • Create a Player Card
  • Use the Little Scholars Grade Conversion Worksheet
*Date, Time, Location TBD
For new League One Coordinators and Little Scholars Coordinators - I will hold separate interactive conference calls to train any new coordinators.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Is participation in the Little Scholars program mandatory for every participant?

Pop Warner Little Scholars, Inc. (PWLS) is the only national youth sports organization in America that requires its participants to perform adequately in the classroom before permitting them to play. We believe that the standards we have set give these children a sense of responsibility and an appreciation for academics and athletics that will help them develop later on in life.

How does the athlete participate in the Southwest Region Little Scholars Program?

Upon registration in Pop Warner Association, proof of satisfactory progress in school is required. A GPA of 70% is the minimum grade point average acceptable to participate. The proof is in form of a report card for the 2014/2015 academic year or the nationally published scholastic eligibility form.

Who can participate in the Little Scholars Program?

Players who are Mitey Mite and up and who have a GPA of 93% or higher in the 2014/2015 academic school year are eligible to be a Pop Warner Little Scholar.

Players who are in 5th grade or higher and received a GPA of 96.5% or higher in the 2014/2015 academic year may complete the All American Application to be considered for this highly prestigious program.

What documentation is required for each participant?

Each player must have:

  • Complete report card for the 2014/2015 academic year which shows school, year and participant name
  • Completed Little Scholars Grading Conversion Worksheet which has been signed by the Little Scholars Coordinator or Association President.
  • If a participant is Home Schooled, a complete Home School Form must be submitted

What to do for a participant who is not yet in school?

  • An Eligibility form (waiver) must be completed for all pre-K participants

What if a participant doesn't meet the minimum academic requirement?

  • The Eligibility form must be completed and signed by the head coach, parent and participant.
  • Please notify the CTPW Little Scholars coordinator of any players in this situation by emailing the association, team name, head coach and player name to thedraekens@gmail.com
  • Each participant in this situation must be prepared to submit progress reports showing their academic progress until they meet the minimum standard

What does each Association Little Scholars Coordinator need to submit to CTPW?

  • Each association much submit a jump drive with Little Scholars GPA spreadsheets completed for each team. Save each team as their own tab on the Excel Workbook and make sure the teams are listed in alphabetical order
  • Each association needs to submit a large manila envelope with the All American candidates for each program (Football, Cheer, Dance).

o Each player who wishes to be considered for the national honor of All American MUST submit a completed application WITH addendum, copy of their report card and printed GPA spreadsheet.

  • The envelopes need to be labeled with the following:
    • Association Name
    • Division
    • Program - Football, Cheer, Dance
  • All items must be submitted to Stephanie Draeken by October 1st, 2015.

Drop off details will be provided via email to each association's Little Scholars Coordinator and President.

When will players and their families be notified?

In late January, families will receive a postcard inviting their Little Scholar to the Regional Banquet held in Dallas in March. The theme for the 2016 banquet is The Beach! All Little Scholars are invited to the regional banquet. This is an exciting time to celebrate your child's academic achievements as a Pop Warner community. Stay tuned for information regarding some fun changes making the 2016 banquet even more fun and interactive for the participants and their families.

In late November, parents with children meeting the All American qualifications will be notified via email by their association confirming that their child is an All American Scholar and can complete the application process for national recognition and consideration for scholarship money.

All American scholars are announced in April. The 2016 National All American banquet will be held in May in Orlando.
