CTPW FAQ's

What is CTPW? Central Texas Pop Warner oversees all of the Pop Warner programs located in Austin, Texas and surrounding communities. Currently, there are eighteen (18) local Pop Warner associations with over 3000 children participating in Pop Warner cheerleading, dance, and football under the umbrella of Central Texas Pop Warner. CTPW is chartered by the National Pop Warner Little Scholars, Inc. program. We hope that this site will help answer any questions you may have about Central Texas Pop Warner.

How do i sign my child up to play? To sign up for Pop Warner football, cheerleading or dance, you must first locate your local program in your area by going to the "Association Links" tab on the homepage menu. You can then contact that program to inquire about when and where sign ups are being offered for the upcoming season.

About Pop Warner? Founded in 1929 Pop Warner Little Scholars, Inc. (PWLS) is a non-profit organization that provides youth football and cheer & dance programs for participants in 42 states and several countries around the world.

Consisting of approximately 425,000 young people ranging from ages 5 to 16 years old, Pop Warner is the largest youth football, cheer and dance program in the world.

What are the academic requirements for participation? Pop Warner Little Scholars, Inc. (PWLS) is the only national youth sports organization in America that requires its participants to perform adequately in the classroom before permitting them to play. We believe that the standards we have set give these children a sense of responsibility and an appreciation for academics and athletics that will help them develop later on in life.

Proof of satisfactory progress in school is required. A 2.0/70% or the equivalent shall be the minimum grade point average acceptable to participate. Those who do not meet this requirement, or home-schooled students can still play if they follow the alternative eligibility process which is monitored by progress reports.

Is participation in Pop Warner safe? Pop Warner has a long history of providing a safe environment for all of our members. Kids compete with kids of similar age and size. Pop Warner is the ONLY youth football program (local, regional and national) that sets and enforces a strict Age & Weight Matrix that reduces the risk and reality of injuries. Did you know that Pop Warner football is safer than soccer? Pop Warner football has 12% fewer injuries per capita among 5-15 year olds than organized soccer in the same age range!.

Are tryouts allowed in Pop Warner? NO TRYOUTS! - Pop Warner programs are not permitted to hold tryouts or cutting of rosters.

When do games begin and on what days are games played? Games are played on Saturdays and begin Labor Day weekend. The last regular season game likely will be in mid-November.
